...She's down to earth, very family oriented, loves her fans dearly (she's actually got all her fan mail stashed in boxes at home), is passionate about her music and African-American men and she's only 22 years old.
Meet KYLA -- Philippines' RnB Princess! Her real name is Melanie Calumpad. Born on January 5, 1981, this young lady with an intense love for R&B music, first appeared on TV's famous singing contest "Tanghalan Ng Kampeon," where she was crowned grand champion in 1993. In 1995, you may have seen her perform in the now-defunct teen variety show called "That's Entertainment," where she was a member of the Wednesday group. Kyla recounts how she would refuse and plead for the production people not to include her in any number where acting was required. She only sings, she says. She has no interest in acting. This little confession has since been a blessing. Had she been forced into the acting business, the local music industry would not have new blood injected into its small band of female recording artists. For Kyla has (and though some may violently object) something to bring to the table. Her vocal gift has that tone and timbre required for R&B music. It's quite a revelation. The girl has improved and matured so much so fast since "Hanggang Ngayon" that you'd be asking, "Is this really Kyla?"COLOR
